New President of the Clackamas County Peace Officers Benevolent Foundation
At the last Board of Directors meeting, the Benevolent Foundation elected Jay Weitman as its new President. Jay is a Sergeant with the Lake Oswego Police Department and has been a member of the Board of Directors for several years. Sergeant Weitman is very active in the County-wide police Peer Support Program and a long-time Honor Guard member, participating in many local, regional, state and national ceremonies with Clackamas County interagency teams. Mark Koberstein and his wife, Terri, are moving to Grants Pass, Oregon to, as Mark's wife would say, "finally retire"! Mark & Steve Hyson were the founders of the Benevolent Foundation and for the last 10 years it has been Mark's passion. This followed a 33 -year career in law enforcement. Mark will stay on the Board of Directors until a transition has been successfully completed. The caring of the law enforcement family in Clackamas County will continue to be the primary purpose of the Foundation. The Foundation will also remain active with other charitable activities in the County, in line with its mission. On a side note, the last member of the original Board of Directors to serve on the Board is Wilda Parks. Wilda was recruited in 2006 while the President of the North Clackamas Chamber of Commerce. Her business savvy and connections to the business community in the county were key to the initial success of the Foundation. Wilda now serves on the City Council of the City of Milwaukie.
